Using ePACK effectively

ePACK is the university-wide database that connects employers with students from NC State. Following are tips for using this system effectively.

How do I log into ePACK?

Access the ePACK website. Your username is your unity account, and your password is your birthday in the following 2 digit format: yearmonthday

Example:

jlsmith@unity.ncsu.edu
Password: birth date. Example – 790814 for a Aug 14, 1979.

What is the “Profile”?

The first time you log in to ePACK you will need to create your profile. Be sure to fill this in as completely and carefully as possible, as the profile will be viewed and searched by employers. To edit your profile, click “Edit” on the right-hand side of page on which you would like to make changes.

How do I upload my resume in e-Pack?

While hundreds of employers come to NC State to interview our students, six times as many will simply search through the student resume database. If you want employers to have access to your resume, you first must Upload and Publish it the virtual resume book.

You can upload up to 10 different resumes in the ePACK system; however, you will need to designate one as your Primary Resume that employers will view in the Resume Book. If applying to more than one type of position (i.e. management trainee jobs and marketing jobs), use a resume with a general Objective that would fit with both fields. Before you send a resume to an employer in ePACK, you can always alter it to fit the position.

To upload your resume in ePACK:

  • Log into your account and go to Documents on the navigation bar.
  • Choose the document type in the Upload Documents section.
  • Click Browse to select your document from your hard drive or floppy disc.
  • Choose the correct document and click Open.
  • Click Upload.

How do I publish my resume in the ePACK resume book?

  • Log into your ePACK account.
  • Click on Documents, and locate the Publish Resumes section and click Go. You MUST publish your resume in the All-Student Resume Book for it to be viewed by employers who wish to search for resumes.
  • View the Resume Books in the Additional Resume Books section.
  • Choose your Resume from the Publish Resume dropdown on the corresponding Resume Book entry.
  • Click save.

It is important to note that twice as many employers view resumes through the resume book than come to campus to interview.

To update a new resume, you must delete your old resume and upload the new resume from your computer.

How do I search for a job or internship in ePACK?

  • Log into your e-Pack account and click on Jobs & Internships.

How do I apply for a job in ePACK?

Employers decide what their screening criteria is when they post positions. If an employer is looking for May 2004 Accounting graduates with a 3.0 GPA or better, and you are a Dec 2005 Management graduate with a 2.1, the system will not allow you to apply.

  • Log into your e-Pack account.
  • Search for Jobs (see Searching for Jobs).
  • Locate How to Apply section of the job details page.
  • Click Apply.
  • Select a resume, cover letter, or other document that meets the requirements.
  • Click Submit.

What if I don’t meet the criteria (i.e., low GPA, missed application deadline) for a job/internship, is there any way I can still apply?

If you would like to apply for an opportunity but the system will not allow you because your criteria does not match the employer’s criteria, use the employer contact name and information to send an email requesting the opportunity to interview. Explain how you heard of the opportunity, why you are interested in the position, and why you are unable to apply on-line. Attach your resume to the email for their review. If the employer grants you permission to interview, bring the email by the career center and you will be added to their interview schedule. Students are encouraged to do this, and many students generate interviewing opportunities in this way.

How do I sign up for an on-campus interview in ePACK?

If you see a job that has an interview schedule, read the entire job description and make sure that you meet the requirements. Pay attention to the Application Deadline. Each job will include information on how to sign up for an interview: some jobs have Closed schedules, meaning that employers want you to submit your resume first for review and approval to sign up for an interview, while other jobs have Open schedules which allow you to sign up on their interview schedule without having to submit a resume for approval.

Log into your ePACK account.

  • Click on the Applications tab on the navigation bar.
  • The status of your active applications is displayed in the Employer Decision Column.
  • Once an employer has accepted your job application, you may sign up for an interview slot.
  • Click on Details/Sign-up.
  • On the Application Details page, under Employer Decision, click on Sign Up for Interview.
  • On the Interview Sign up Page, find the schedule you would like to sign up for and select the time on the radio button associated with the time slot you desire.

COMMON QUESTIONS

How many students find jobs on ePACK?

With a database of nearly 1500 employers, the ePACK system offers opportunities for many NC State students. However, the reality is that not everyone will be successful in finding a job/internship through ePACK. The key to any successful job search is to have a diversified approach and use several different job-searching techniques. While ePACK should be a part of your job search, we do not encourage you to rely solely on it. For information and assistance with other aspects of job searching, please contact a member of the College of Management Career Resources staff.

What is the best way to be successful using ePACK?

Make sure that your Profile is filled out correctly and completely.

If you are not 100% certain about the specific job you want after graduation, you are still encouraged to apply to the positions that marginally interest you. While you don’t want to waste a recruiter’s time by interviewing for jobs that you have no interest in, you have nothing to lose by applying to several positions and seeing what happens. In addition to gaining interviewing experience, you may discover a new opportunity you had not previously considered.
