“From these experiences, I bring to the classroom real life valuation tasks such as valuing operating components of a business (e.g., a "division" of a business), a downtown Raleigh parking deck, an engineering firm for sale, and even patents and copyrights.“
J.C. Poindexter Associate Professor
The fundamental focus in of my research and teaching is in the area of valuation - accurately assessing values of assets ranging from financial claims, such as common stocks and corporate bonds, to physical assets, such as processing lines and factories.
Related valuations techniques are applicable to analyzing mergers, acquisitions, dissolutions and the restructuring of entire companies.
In the course of my career, my expertise in this area has led to hundreds of consulting engagements valuing an enormous range of assets and entities both for commercial clients and litigants in court procedures.
From these experiences, I bring to the classroom real life valuation tasks such as valuing operating components of a business (e.g., a “division” of a business), a downtown Raleigh parking deck, an engineering firm for sale, and even patents and copyrights.
These applications both make classes more interesting and prepare our students for the novel valuation tasks they may face in their future careers.
