“By staying engaged with the global business community and the issues it faces in this time of transition from asset heavy to asset light service models, we are able to bring meaningful case studies, guest speakers and discussions into the classroom. “

Mitzi Montoya Zelnak Professor of Innovation Management; Assistant Dean, Research

Our added value here is that we take a very applied approach to our teaching, research and service.

By staying engaged with the global business community and the issues it faces in this time of transition from asset heavy to asset light service models, we are able to bring meaningful case studies, guest speakers and discussions into the classroom. Students benefit by gaining a deep background and insight into the complexities of business today.

One of my projects takes me to the Middle East, Europe and the Far East, where I provide training that helps a global chemical company improve its processes and strategies. Another project has me working with a company’s innovation center located right here at NC State, on our Centennial Campus. This company is seeking to develop more innovative products that will drive differentiation in the marketplace. They aim to be more environmentally friendly and are trying to figure out how to do it. This is part of what we hope anyone in college – at the undergrad or graduate levels – learns to do: deal with uncertainty in a rational way.
