MAC Study Abroad

Vienna - Summer 2009

This Study Abroad program provided Master of Accounting (MAC) students an opportunity to participate in a short-term international experience at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Wirtschaftsuniversitat Wien) in Vienna, Austria. Students registered for one of two three-week programs during the summer of 2009. Students earned 3 credit hours which could be used to satisfy an MBA (BUS) elective requirement in the MAC program.

The City of Vienna

Vienna is the capital of Austria and has a population of about 1.6 million people (2.2 million within the metro area). Vienna is by far the largest city in Austria as well as its cultural, economic and political center. Vienna lies in the south-eastern corner of Central Europe and is close to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration

Wirtschaftsuniversitat Wien is the largest business university in the European Union. It enrolls about 20,000 students and is located on a campus close to the center of Vienna.

Program of Study

The program on Global Management will be taught by lecturers from universities around the world. Courses will be taught mainly in the mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In the afternoon, students will take an “enrichment” course and may also choose to attend a German language course. Course offerings in the July morning session include: Management of Cross Cultural Difference, International Supply Chain Management and Intercultural Marketing. Courses in the August morning session include: Accounting and Finance, Nonprofit Management and Logisitics and Supply Chain Management.

Fees

The tentative fee is 1,290 euros (about $1,590) plus airfare of approximately $1,200. The course fee includes textbooks and other course material, accommodations in a student residence hall, breakfast and lunch (Monday through Friday on lecture days) and a transportation ticket for local trains, trams, subway, buses and other public transportation.

Application Requirements

How to Apply:

Applications will be available starting March 1, 2009, through the Vienna University of Economics and Business Management website. They must be completed and sent directly to Wirtschaftsuniversitat Wien. The application deadline is April 6, 2009. After acceptance, students will receive an invoice for the course fee.  Students must have a valid passport to travel to Austria. Non-U.S. citizens may be required to obtain a visa.
