Innovation Management Curricula

The Innovation Management curriculum teaches students how to study customer needs and develop products for the marketplace with a strong interdisciplinary perspective. This approach creates products that are cost-effective to manufacture, appealing in design and functionality, and valuable to consumers.

There are two tracks: Product Innovation and Services Innovation

Following is the course list for students in the Innovation Management Concentration.

Full-Time MBA

Please note that full-time students are required to complete a concentration in Finance, Marketing, or Supply Chain Management. A second MBA concentration of their choosing may be completed with the remaining credit hours. Requests for exceptions should be submitted to Dean Allen.

Product Innovation Track

Required:
MBA 554 Project Management (3 credit hours)
MBA 555 Product Design and Development (4)
MBA 563 Product and Brand Management (3)

Electives – Select two of the following:
MBA 514 Technology, Competition, and the Law (3)
MBA 536 Creativity in Management (3)
MBA 557 Consulting (3)
MBA 561 Marketing Analytics (3)
MBA 562 Marketing Research (3)

Services Innovation Track

Required:
MBA 551 Services Management (1.5)
MBA 552 Organizational Culture (1.5)
MBA 553 Business Process Analysis & Design (3)
MBA 556 Services Innovation Lab (3)

Note: MBA 556 Service Innovation Lab will not be offered in spring 2010 because the only qualified professor is on academic leave. Students planning to graduate before spring 2011 in the Services Innovation track should substitute one of the following courses for MBA 556: MBA 514, 536, 554, 557, 561 or 562.

  • Part-time students completing one concentration must complete 12 credit hours in a concentration
  • Part-time students completing two concentrations must complete 9 credit hours in each concentration
