Application Checklist

A complete application consists of the following:

  • Online application form
    Please be sure to apply directly through the MBA Program application, not the NC State University Graduate School, as they are separate and distinct applications.
  • NC residency form (if you wish to claim NC residency for tuition purposes)
  • $65 application fee for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents or $75 USD for non-resident aliens and international applicants (NONREFUNDABLE)
  • Essays
  • Résumé
  • Two (2) official transcripts from each college/university attended (It is not necessary to request NC State transcripts) *
  • Three letters of recommendation (must include contact information)
  • Official GMAT scores*
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (international applicants only)
  • Admissions interview

Application Deadlines

Full-Time

Full-time Deadlines for Fall 2009:
Round 1: October 13, 2008
Round 2: January 5, 2009
Round 3: March 7, 2009

Admission to the full-time MBA Program is granted for the fall term only.

Part-Time

Spring 2009: October 13, 2008 (September 21, 2008 for TOEFL/IELTS Waiver Requests)
Fall 2009 Round 1: February 9, 2009
Fall 2009 Round 2: April 6, 2009

Admission to the part-time MBA Program is granted for the fall and spring terms for classes taken at both the NC State campus and the Research Triangle Park campus. 

Mandatory orientation for those starting in Spring 2009 will be held in early January.


Online Application

Applications are submitted online through the ApplyYourself Application Network. When you begin the application process, you will receive a PIN and password that allow you to work on your application over several sessions. Your information is transmitted through a secured server, and is confidential until you submit your application. Only after you submit your application will it be available for review by the MBA Program Office. When you have completed your application and are ready to submit it, you may pay your application fees online via credit card or by mail via personal check. You can only submit your application one time.


GMAT

All applicants are required to submit official GMAT scores regardless of their professional background. Applicants with a Ph.D., Pharm.D., JD, or MD are not required to take the GMAT. GMAT scores are valid for five years. GRE scores are not substitutable for GMAT scores. For more information regarding the GMAT, call 1.800.717.GMAT or visit the GMAT web site. Those who plan to retake the GMAT should notify the MBA Office of the newly scheduled test date.


TOEFL

Citizens of approved countries are exempt from the TOEFL and IELTS.  International students who have completed one full year of full-time study in the United States or other approved countries are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. All other international applicants must submit a TOEFL score of at least 100 on the internet-based test (250 computer-based) or an IELTS score of at least 7.5. Scores are valid for only two years.

TOEFL/IELTS Waivers (available to part-time applicants only)
Part-time applicants may be exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS if two out of three of the following criteria are met:

1. Analytical writing assessment score of 4.5 or higher on the GMAT
2. Satisfactory communication and teamwork skills, as assessed during the admissions interview
3. Five years residency in the US, working in an establishment where all activities are conducted in English

Applicants who wish to apply for a TOEFL/IELTS waiver will need to submit a completed application (including all supporting documents) by the following dates:
Spring 2009: September 21, 2008
Fall 2009: April 6, 2009


International Students

International students whose undergraduate transcripts are in a language other than English are required to provide an official English translation through World Education Services. General information about being an international student at NC State University is available at the Office of International Affairs website.
