News for and about the NC State College of Management MBA community. Submit MBA ENEWS items to Adrienne Jablonski by Friday of each week.

Please remember that the e-newsletter is the MBA Program’s primary method of communication with students. Therefore, it is very important for you to read and absorb the weekly e-newsletter.

Welcome New and Returning Students!

The MBA Program staff would like to welcome back returning students and new students. As a reminder, the MBA e-newsletter will be posted at the beginning of each week. If you have anything that you would like to post in the newsletter, please submit the write-up to Adrienne Jablonski by Friday of each week.

Student ID Photos for New Students

The photos taken during orientation will be used for both your student ID card and for the online student directory. After your All-Campus student ID card is made at the Campus ID Card Office (a couple weeks), we will deliver them to your classes.

Your NCSU Email Account

Don’t forget that your NC State issued email account (Unity) is where all of your MBA-related communication will sent to.

In addition, your Unity email address is the address that NC State uses for correspondence with you. Email regarding your classes, student information, eBILLs and correspondence from faculty will be sent to your Unity address. To check your Unity email, you can use Webmail or you can use an IMAP-compliant email client.

This email requirement will overwrite any non-Unity email address you may have as your preferred email address in PackTracks. If you still want to get your university related emails at a non-NCSU address, you will need to forward your Unity email to that other address. To forward your Unity email, please visit the Unity forwarding page.

For more information on the email address information that NC State maintains, please see: Email Processes at NC State

For information on how to increase your NCSU email quota:
1. Go to http://sysnews.ncsu.edu
2. Under “User Info” hit the login button and login with your Unity ID and Password
3. Under “User Info” hit the “Quota Manager” button.
4. Adjust your allocation of space up to 300MB
5. Hit the “Submit Change Request” button. If you would like to purchase more space, the option is available on this webpage as well.

If you have questions, please contact the NC State Help Desk at 515-HELP.

Summer 2008 Course Schedule

Registration for summer 2008 courses begins on March 11. Please see the schedule below so that you may begin planning your summer classes.

Summer 2008 Course Schedule

Part-time Tuition Rates at RTP and Main Campus

For the first time this spring semester, returning part-time students may take courses on both the main and RTP campuses. Although our understanding had been that students would pay tuition based onthe program (either main campus or RTP) to which they were originally admitted, we have now learned that tuition will be charged by the location of each course. So, for example, if you are registered for one course on main and on course at RTP, you will have two separate charges on your bill: the main campus course charge is billed in groupings of credit hours, the RTP campus course is billed by the credit hour.

Please refer to the attached chart for tuition/fees details. We understand that this change may cause confusion for you and for your employer. The college has raised the issue of two different tuition/fee structures and the problems it causes with university officials in hopes that these differences will be resolved in the near future.

Career Resources

Message from Linda Taylor, Director, Career Resources, COM

Recently, I was in a classroom and heard an MBA student ask whether he was going to be “forced” to attend corporate information sessions again this semester. This set me to thinking that we in Career Resourcesprobably need to do a better job explaining the benefit of these sessions to our MBA students.

Corporate information sessions serve a dual purpose: They allowour MBA students to learn more about the various employersAND allow employers the chance to get a good impression of ourstudents. With the relativelyyoung age of our MBA program, NC State is sometimesoverlooked as a potential source of talent by certain employers. In an effort to get“on their radar”, we court them and invite them to campus to see for themselvesthe talented students enrolledhere. Once they have agreed to visit, it is imperative that we make a good showing. This means adequate numbers of professionally attiredstudents actively posing good questions. Our studentsdo a great job and their attendance at the sessionshas changed the minds of several recruiters about adding NC State to their recruiting school list.

Students not currently seeking full-time jobs (generally first year students) can begin making vital networking links early in their MBA career by attending these sessions. Perhaps the function the recruiter is seeking does not match up with the student’s area of concentration. Attending the session allows a student to make a connection with the recruiter and perhaps get a “warm” introduction to the proper hiring authority rather than making a cold call.
Sessions are scheduled in the late afternoon in an effort to allowour working professionalpopulation (part-time students) to attendprior to class at 6 PM and usually include beverages and a snack.

We realize that information sessions are yet another item to juggle along with homework, projects andtests. But, we believe they are a great investment. The ultimate goal of an MBA student is not to graduate with a 4.0, but to secure a position worthy of theirtraining and talent. It’s about getting the job you really want. Attending information sessions are just oneway to achieve this.
